Browning Construction Co. maintains a rigorous and proactive
Safety Program, updated annually, which increases employee awareness and
minimizes occurrences of serious injury, resulting in an exceptionally
low worker’s compensation insurance multiplier for many years.
Our experience modifier rating (EMR) is below the industry
average. This is the result
of an aggressive safety program. Much of the success with our safety record is attributable to
the high level of safety training afforded to our employees.
This training typically consists of 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA
Construction Outreach courses, conducted by a third party provider. All
Browning Superintendents, Project Managers and Project Engineers have
attended the OSHA 30 hour training class.
To supplement the OSHA classes, more informal but job-specific
courses are provided in structured training seminars, consisting of
topics such as Fall Protection, Fork Lift, First Aid & CPR, and
Excavation Safety. Furthermore,
all Browning employees are required to attend weekly jobsite safety
meetings. Browning Construction Co. employs a third-party consultant to
conduct monthly audits of each and every jobsite, and furnish written
reports to the Superintendent, the Project Manager and the Safety
Director. Our General Superintendent requires that each Superintendent
complete a weekly job safety inspection and forward the written results,
with corrections, to the Project Manager.
This ensures that all levels of management are kept abreast of
the “state of the job.” At the highest level of management, the Browning Construction
Co. Safety Committee meets monthly to set policy, review inspection
reports and to ensure all employee training is up to date. Browning Construction Co. has recently entered into partnership with the San Antonio Chapter of the AGC, and the Austin Area OSHA office, in a self-policing program known as the S.H.A.R.E. program.
